Well it’s that time … IT’S GIVEAWAY TIME (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧
To celebrate 700 people following this blog (which still hasn’t quite sunk in … so many people …
ಠ_ಠ) and also to share some of my recent roadkill findings, I’m hosting a giveaway! ~ *:･ﾟ✧
But, I wanted to make this a giveaway with a bit of a twist…
I will definitely be giving away, at least -
★ A small vial of feathers from Michael the peregrine falcon
★ A deer molar
★ A piece of pheasant skin (preserved) with yellow and orange feathers attached
★ [Added 7th April] A small brown rabbit/mink fur collar
★ A salt dried goldfish
★ A baggie of misc mouse bones for crafting
If the winner of the giveaway has alcohol and a jar in which to keep it, I will also be giving away a wet preserved hind paw [x, x] from a Benedict Cumberbadger, the European badger I picked up recently! For ease of posting I would take it out of the jar the paws are currently in and post in (several) ziplock bags, hence why the winner would need their own preservatives to keep the paw in. However, if the winner is would not able to keep the badger paw, I would substitute it for something from my etsy shop.
Also, I will throw in some other items over the course of the giveaway :3
Other items I’m considering adding are the rabbit fur stole you can see part of in the above photo, a salt dried platy, a european rabbit skull and various feathers from different species.
▶ UK & EU residents only
★ You do not have to be a current follower
▶ [Edited 7th April] Each reblog counts as one entry
★ The giveaway will end on May 1st 2014, midnight GMT time
▶ Your ask box must be open so I can contact you when you win. I will wait 24hrs before drawing another name!
BIRD EGG BIRD EGG BIRD EGG
#AttenboroughWeek starts April 21st!
The BBC is celebrating the life and work of Sir David Attenborough all next week with commemorative video releases and encouraging dialogue about his extensive life’s work. I participated in a video retelling my favorite Attenborough moment that was uploaded to EarthUnplugged today.
Sir David’s documentary legacy has been incredibly influential to me. Watching the Planet Earth series was the first time I ever felt a personal connection to and responsibility for this planet we share. I believe strongly in the power of community, shared knowledge, and the desire to work towards better environmental health, and we can do that if we choose to embody the respect for our world that David speaks to regularly.
What is your favorite David Attenborough moment!?

Lynx Genus Comparison Chart
So I decided to make a chart comparing the 4 lynx species: Canada Lynx, Eurasian Lynx, Iberian Lynx and Bobcat. I know they can be somewhat confusing, but hopefully this chart can help with that.
The chart includes the following:
- Name of lynx species (left-hand side)
- Images of the face, profile and body
- Scientific name (right-hand side)
(Although I do not like to crop/edit images, I have cropped some images to keep a uniform size and chart style).
As they grow, young birds subsisting on white bread and other inappropriate food sources can develop issues preventing their bones from forming normally, resulting in angel wing. (via Feeding White Bread to Wild Birds is Killing Them | One Green Planet)
In general feeding wildlife is bad, and that includes birds, if you’re going to feed wildlife make sure what you’re doing is not hurting the animal, and be sure it is legal where you are located as many parks ban the feeding of waterfowl/pigeons to try to avoid negative human/bird interactions and keep the park cleaner.
The article has great suggestions for better alternatives:
“Nutritious waterfowl feed or duck pellets are inexpensive, easy to carry, and can be purchased at most feed stores. Seedless grapes cut in half, shredded kale, Swiss chard or romaine lettuce, and grains, including wheat, barley and oats, are all healthy food sources that will appeal to most waterfowl. Make sure anything you feed is bite-sized to avoid choking hazards.”
